AI Cannot Operate the Grid Without Understanding Electricity: The Role of ETAP Electrical Intelligence in GCC Utility Transformation. AI provides intelligence from data. ETAP provides intelligence grounded in electrical physics. GCC utilities need both to make AI reliable, explainable and operationally useful. Utilities across the GCC are accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence to improve grid planning, operations, asset management, renewable-energy integration and customer services. To deliver its full value, utility AI must be supported by an accurate understanding of the electrical network, including system topology, equipment characteristics, operating conditions, protection constraints and the physical behaviour of the grid. This presentation explores how ETAP Electrical Intelligence complements artificial intelligence by providing a continuously updated, physics-based electrical digital twin of the utility network. By combining engineering models, operational data, advanced power-system analysis and AI, utilities can transform large volumes of data into trusted, explainable and actionable decisions. The session will cover applications across the complete utility lifecycle, including generation, transmission and distribution planning, renewable and DER integration, hosting-capacity assessment, real-time grid operations, contingency analysis, protection management, asset-performance monitoring, predictive maintenance, outage restoration and customer connections.

With particular focus on GCC utility priorities—including rapid demand growth, large-scale renewable integration, battery storage, electric vehicles, data centres, ageing infrastructure and grid resilience—the presentation will demonstrate how AI and Electrical Intelligence can work together to support safer operations, improved reliability, optimised investments and the transition towards increasingly autonomous and sustainable power networks.
